The gray treefrog (Dryophytes versicolor) is a species of small arboreal holarctic tree frog native to much of the eastern United States and southeastern Canada.
Gray treefrogs come in a variety of colors, as its scientific name suggests. They can hide themselves by changing from gray to green or brown, depending on their surroundings, thanks to this colour variation ability. D. versicolor can change from nearly black to nearly white. Compared to chameleons, they change color more slowly. A distinctive element of gray treefrogs’ appearance is the dark band-like pattern on their legs, which contrasts dramatically with the bright yellow or orange undersides of their limbs and legs that are marked with black.
